Monty Don has shared a sad career update, leaving many fans disappointed. The 69-year-old BBC Gardeners' World star took to his social media account, on Instagram, to share that he had performed at his final destination for his grand tour. He had been providing shows for An Audience with Monty Don, which began on November 1, which wrapped up over the weekend.
However, back in November the star was forced to cancel his Cornwall shows due to illness. The broadcaster was scheduled to give talks in Exeter, Truro, Bath, and Nottingham when he fell ill and was rushed to A&E. On November 26, Monty took to Instagram to explain his absence to his 1.3 million followers. In the video, he can be seen at home with his beloved dog Ned.
At the time, he said: "Hello. I am so sorry to have disappointed all those people who were going to come and see me in Exeter and Truro and Bath and Nottingham. But on Friday afternoon I was rushed to A and E. I was kept in at the hospital over Saturday, Sunday, and Monday and had to have drips and all the rest of it."
He added: "But I came home last night, and I'm feeling much better. I'm going to spend the next few days quietly recuperating here at home and hopefully by the weekend I'll be back to full fitness."
While he didn't disclose why he was hospitalised, his tour soon continued. And this weekend the BBC star made his return to some of the missed shows to conclude his talks.
Posting to Instagram he shared: "The final destination on my grand tour is here at the Hall for Cornwall in Truro. Perform r at 8:00 tonight and matinee tomorrow afternoon. I should have been here in November but illness postponed things. However, I am delighted to be here now!"
He added another update, just before the afternoon show, writing: "All set for this afternoon's matinee at the fabulous Hall for Cornwall and the last of this show - existing commitments mean no more for a couple of years at least."
Fans who had managed to nab a ticket to see him were delighted with his performance. Posting to Instagram, one said: "Could have listened for 2 more hours, time flew."
Another added: "Thoroughly enjoyed your talk this afternoon. A great insight into the filming of Gardeners' World too." While a third penned: "The best afternoon! So inspirational, very funny and you can tell a great story! Thank you! Loved it!"
