With the cost of living continuing to increase, many Brits have spent the last few years opting for budget-friendly holidays as a way to keep the costs down come summertime. However, this year prices could go up even further due to the recent uncertainty in the global markets. As Donald Trump's trade tariffs on UK exports have led to economic uncertainty, one expert warns that British travellers should brace for higher holiday prices.
Money-saving expert Robert Andrews, from price comparison website Electricity Prices, said: "The US and many parts of the Eurozone are likely to become more expensive due to a weaker pound and likely retaliatory tariffs, but there are some destinations which are less tied to the dollar or the euro where prices should remain stable." With this in mind, there are several locations Richard suggests visiting to make your money stretch further while still enjoying a summer getaway.
Turkey is currently one of the cheapest destinations for UK travellers. The Turkish lira is particularly weak against the pound, meaning that travellers will get more for their money when spending locally.
"A meal that costs you £100 in a Mediterranean hotspot will be half the price in Turkey, leaving you with more budget for boat tours or a day at the spa," says Robert, adding that there are plenty of budget airlines that have flights from British airports to Istanbul, Antalya, Dalaman, and Bodrum.
When it comes to visiting Eastern Europe, Robert says: "You can book a four-star accommodation, enjoy dinner and drinks for two and still spend a lot less than you would for a room in other parts of Europe."
Bulgaria, Romania, and Poland are all outside of the Eurozone, therefore offering more favourable exchange rates and fewer pricing pressures tied to global trade shifts.
Robert highlights that Morocco's economy isn't affected by Western trade disputes, so travelling to Morocco means you won't feel the same pinch on exchange rates. It's also a great year-round destination, with even the winter months being rather warm.
He adds: "Spa treatments, private dessert tours and high-end meals are all a fraction of the cost compared to other places in Europe, so if you are after a warm weather break without the hefty price tag, Morocco is a solid choice."
There's also always the option of a staycation in the UK if you're looking for a cheaper summer holiday, although the experts suggest booking ASAP as higher costs around Europe may lead to more holidaymakers booking staycations, leading to an increase in the costs of staycations too.
Robert finishes: "You might find that the best option is to stay in the UK, with many unique experiences available at a fraction of the cost of travelling abroad, a Staycation could be exactly what is needed. Just be sure to book as soon as you can to beat the holiday rush, which will drive up prices further."
