It is a truth universally acknowledged that adaptations of Jane Austen's classic Pride and Prejudice are usually a hit with viewers. With that in mind, fans of the author have been left in meltdown after it was announced that a new mini-series of the book will be coming to Netflix.

Published in 1813, the beloved book has been turned into multiple films and TV shows over the years, with the BBC's 1995 miniseries and the 2005 film arguably being the most memorable. The streaming giant announced that the series is expected to start filming later this year in the UK, and a cast has already been confirmed.

The Sunday Times columnist and Everything I Know About Love author Dolly Alderton is set to write the script but who will be stepping into the iconic roles of Elizabeth Bennet and Mr. Darcy?

Keira Knightley portrayed Elizabeth in the 2005 Joe Wright movie, and Jennifer Ehle n the 1995 miniseries. But for the Netflix adaptation, Nosferatu star Emma Corrin will play the lead role. With

Known for playing a young Princess Diana in the Netflix series The Crown, Emma will have an onscreen reunion with fellow co-star Olivia Colman, who played Queen Elizabeth II in the same season. She will portray Mrs. Bennet in the new series.

Corrin said about taking on the iconic role, "Playing Elizabeth Bennet is a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity. To be able to bring this iconic character to life alongside Olivia and Jack, with Dolly’s phenomenal scripts, is truly the greatest honour. I can’t wait for a new generation to fall in love with this story all over again.”

With Elizabeth locked in, who will play her Mr Darcy?

We all remember Colin Firth emerging fully clothed from the lake in the 1995 format, and Matthew Macfadyen most recently took on the role alongside Keira in 2005. For the new Netflix series, Dunkirk and Slow Horses star Jack Lowden will play the love interest.

The Scottish actor, who became famous in the historical film Mary Queen of Scots, married Saoirse Ronan in a private ceremony last summer. The pair had been dating for several years after meeting on the Mary Queen of Scots set, where Saorise played the doomed historical figure.

According to Bazaar, Netflix will ensure that the show “will be a faithful, classic adaptation of the novel.”
