A helicopter crashed in the Hudson river in New York, killing at least three, ABC News reports. The horrific accident took place at 3.15pm local time today, with four people reportedly on board.
Rescue efforts are underway after the aircraft plummeted down near Pier 40. Emergency services have flocked to the scene with vehicles on both sides of the river. A police helicopter is also at the incident.
Four have pulled from the site, including a young boy, yet their conditions remain unclear, NBC News reports.
In a statement on X, the NYPD said: “Due to a helicopter crash in the Hudson River, in the vicinity of the West Side Highway and Spring Street, expect emergency vehicles and traffic delays in the surrounding areas.”
A passerby told Eyewitness News that he saw the helicopter crash. "I heard a loud snap ... I looked over ... and I could see a helicopter falling on its side and splash into the water," he said. "I didn't see anyone come out."
A social media user shared a clip on X of what appears to be wreckage, adding: "Helicopter crashed in Hudson! The chopper broke off midair and dropped!"
