Traffic in the Waterloo area of London is almost at a standstill due to a Palestine protest. The Pro- -Palestine protesters have sparked chaos around the third busiest station in the UK.
The demonstrators waved banners that read 'stop arming Israel' and chanted "stop killing babies", "stop the genocide" and "free free Palestine" as they lined a busy pedestrian crossing forcing cars and vans to go around them.
As they waved Palestinian flags and let off green flares one van was heard angrily beeping its horn as it swerved around the demonstrators. Less than 10 demonstrators appear to be taking part in the protest.
From videos circulating on social media it appears traffic outside Waterloo station has been brought to an almost standstill.
A sea of red London buses and cars can be seen lining the roads, unable to move due to the activists.
One user on X, formerly Twitter, said: "So much for getting usual bus to work! Protest just now outside Waterloo station blocking road."
Protests against the war in the Middle East have broken out in cities across the UK since Hamas's attack on October 7, 2023. Tens of thousands of demonstrators gathered in London in March calling for an end to "Israel's siege of Gaza", while a counter-protest, organised by the group Stop the Hate also assembled in the city centre.
Just yesterday it was revealed that Hamas has launched legal action against its proscription as a terror group, prompting widespread outrage.
The Palestinian militant group instructed British lawyers to challenge the designation, arguing it was a “political” decision by former Home Secretary Dame Priti Patel.
Riverway Law, an immigration firm based in Streatham, south London, has confirmed it has begun legal proceedings against the Home Office. The firm said on Wednesday: “Today, Fahad Ansari of Riverway Law launches an important legal application to Yvette Cooper MP to end the ban on the organisation Harakat al-Muqawwamah al-Islamiyyah (Hamas).”
But Shadow Foreign Secretary Dame Priti Patel said: “Hamas is an evil Iranian-backed terrorist organisation, which kidnaps, tortures and murders people, including British nationals.
"They pose an ongoing threat to our security and to the peace and stability of the Middle East and they have weapons and training facilities that put lives at risk and threaten our interests. They show no respect for human rights, life and dignity and have oppressed people living in Gaza for too long."
