Brits have been warned to check if their laptops, phones and smartwatches are on an urgent product recall list due to "fire and explosion" fears. Amazon has been instructed to recall technological devices shipped to the UK by China-based firm Dorland after the products were judged to present "a serious risk of fire and explosion". The Government's Office for Product Safety and Standards (OPSS) said 10 products that claimed to be "designed for use in Zone 1/Zone 2 explosive hazardous zones" had been identified as posing a significant risk to UK users.

The devices, including the Dorland Extreme 5G Industrial 'Intrinsically Safe' Smartphone Android 11, were advertised on the online retailer as "explosion, water, dust, and shock-proof" and suitable for use in the petrochemical industry and "dangerous places with combustible and explosive gas. "However, the OPSS said the products lacked the necessary markings to indicate that they were safe for use in high-risk environments.

The OPSS said: "The products claim to be suitable for use in Zone 1 and Zone 2 hazardous areas.

"[But] there is no evidence that an appropriate conformity assessment was carried out before the products were placed on the market in Great Britain."

The Government issued the recall notice on April 7, and customers in possession of the impacted phones, smartwatches, and laptops were urged to await further instructions from Amazon about the return and refund process.

The OPSS commonly recalls products when they pose a health risk, with recent examples including TK Maxx's warning to customers who bought the Byblos Blu Happy Hour Eau De Toilette between January and March 2025.

The perfume, which has now been removed from shelves, contained a chemical not authorised for use in Europe due to the risk of allergic reactions.

Sainsbury's also recently recalled its Taste the Difference Belgian Milk Chocolate Honeycomb Pretzel bars due to potential metal fragments.
