Oasis fans are gearing up for the hotly-anticipated reunion tour which is now under three months away. As well as their chart-topping music, the Gallagher brothers have gained widespread attention over the years for their sibling rivalry and forthright opinions.
Noel Gallagher is certainly known as a man who doesn't mince his words. He's been vocal over the years about other musicians, and has rarely hesitated to voice his opinion on some giants of the industry.
As reported by Far Out magazine, the Oasis star previously named the top 10 artists that he hates the most. The list includes solo pop stars, rock and roll bands, and his own brother Liam.
In number 10 is singer Sam Smith, who Noel previously referred to as a "f****** idiot". When talking about the charts in the 2010s, he said: “Music has become quite fractured, and chart music is dominated by pop. Pop music is alright if pop stars are cool but most of the pop stars today are fucking idiots.”
Maroon 5 is next up and Noel was unhappy to find out that Oasis inspired the pop group. He came across their bass player and said: “He said ‘I’m the bass player in Maroon 5’ and I went ‘F****** shit! How the fuck have you gotten Maroon 5 from what I’m doing. Get the hell out of my sight.’”
The list also features The Kaiser Chiefs, who Noel dubbed "w******", and Harry Styles. Noel previously said: “People of my age have let themselves go, they’re fat, balding idiots with fading tattoos. They sit in their garage and write sh*** like ‘Sign of the Times’ for Harry Styles. Which, quite frankly, my cat could have written in about 10 minutes.”
Noel has also been vocal about Radiohead who he urged to retire so "we don't have to listen to you bleeding on about how s*** your life is." It came after the rock group said they didn't enjoy being on the road touring.
It comes as no surprise that Blur also features on the list after their feud with Oasis during the 1990s. Noel has been vocal about every member of the band, saying: “Damon Albarn is a f****** knobber. And his guitarist – who I thought was all right – seems to think that he’s some intelligent superhuman being, the f****** idiot. I never met the drummer, and the bassist, who I first didn’t like and thought he was a c***, turned out to be quite all right.”
Noel also described The Beach Boys as the "most overrated group of all time". He added: "The only reason they’re in any way successful is because they’re next to The Beatles in alphabetical order, and Paul McCartney likes them. That’s it. Just barbershop quartet music.”
At the start of Oasis, Noel was determined to stomp out other artists such as Phil Collins. He said: “We’re gonna get rid of Phil Collins and Sting — junk food music, McDonald’s music — we’ve got to get in the charts and stamp them out.
"I want the severed head of Phil Collins in my fridge by the end of this decade. And if I haven’t, I’ll be a failure.”
As well as specific singers and bands, Noel has also opened fire on all heavy metal acts. He has previously touted The Beatles and The Stone Roses as inspirations to him, but has sworn off any association with heavy metal bands.
And finally, at the top of the list, is his brother Liam Gallagher. Despite their reunion this summer, the brothers have endured a turbulent relationship over the years.
After the band broke up, Noel stopped all contact with his brother. They had a bitter rivalry, with Noel previously saying he had no desire to work with the man who is the equivalent of “a man with a fork in a world of soup”.
