Brits are amongst dozens of tourists injured after a bus overturned in a Thailand tourist hotspot. The group was on its way to the Koh Samui island when the incident happened.
The tour bus left the road and flipped over and authorities said 10 tourists were taken to nearby hospitals while others were treated at the scene.
Officials have identified one of the injured as a British passenger, 23, who was taken to Bangkok Hospital Surat Thani along with Thai driver, Theerawat Kohhem, 38, and Malaysian woman Shanmail Sharudae, 51.
Authorities arrived shortly after midday where they found the coach lying on its side. Firemen had to use cutting equipment to get to the trapped tourists inside the vehicle.
Footage shows paramedics treating the injured tourists at the scene while others collected their belongings from the coach.
A spokesman for the police said: “The bus had picked up 40 tourists and three staff from Ao Nang in Krabi Province.
“They were headed to the pier in Don Sak District in Surat Thani Province, en route to Koh Samui island. The cause of the accident remains under police investigation.”
Thailand has one the the worst records globally for road safety, with 32.7 deaths per 100,000 people. A failure to enforce road laws, easy driving tests and a lack of road safety education all contributes to the number of deaths.
In February, another tour bus lost control in Nakhon Ratchasima province, resulting in 18 holidaymakers being injured. In the same month, a bus skidded in the Phang Nga province which saw 11 travellers rushed to hospital, including a critically injured toddler.
Just last month, a dozen tourists were injured in an overturned coach in Phuket.
