A Liberal Democrat MP who shocked onlookers when launching into a foul-mouthed tirade while visiting a nuclear power station has been slammed in newly-erected constituency posters. Earlier this month, the Express revealed that Tiverton MP Rachel Gilmour went on an “astonishing” rant while visiting Hinkley power station in her constituency, with accusations she insulted security staff, apprentices and a constituent.

A source claimed she called a security guard at the front gate a “c***” and an “obnoxious t***” before reportedly speculating “I bet he votes f****** Tory”. It followed an incident with her driver’s licence, which was discovered to have expired some months prior.

A number of shocked constituents have now demanded an investigation into the incident by both parliament’s standards commissioner, and the local police. It has been argued that her behaviour breached the MP code of conduct, including a failure to treat others with dignity and respect; bringing parliament into disrepute; and demonstrating integrity and acting in a way that maintains public confidence in Parliament.

She is also accused of undermining trust in public office.

The police have also received complaints following the incident, with accusations the MP’s behaviour breached the Public Order Act 1986, which bans the use of threatening, abusive or insulting words.

Pressure has now ramped up in her locally, with parody LibDem campaign posters emerging taking aim at her behaviour.

Spotted by a local source around Tiverton & Minehead, the orange diamonds appear indistinguishable from the usual LibDem posters at a distance.

However as the onlooker moves closer, it becomes clear they are not supportive of Ms Gilmour.

They read: “Rachel Gilmour: Swearing Here!” - a reference to the party’s frequently used “winning here” slogan.

They were put up around the constituency on the first weekend of the local election campaign, with Devon County Council up for grabs.

The Tories have held the council every election since 2009, though the LibDems - who launched its local election campaign this morning - will be hoping for an upset.

A Liberal Democrat spokesperson said: "We are aware of allegations that have been made about Rachel Gilmour's conduct. If any complaints are received they will be investigated under the party's independent complaints process."

A spokesman for Mrs Gilmour said: “Rachel still denies the characterisation of the visit, and the language used. Rachel has continued a productive working relationship with Hinkley Point A and B, and will continue to conduct her duties as the MP for Tiverton and Minehead.”
