Prince Harry and Meghan Markle quit life as senior royals five years ago, taking both the public and members of the Royal Family by surprise. While the Duke and Duchess of Sussex have experienced some fractured relationships with some royals since leaving the fold in 2020 as a result of various decisions, including their bombshell 2021 Oprah Winfrey interview, it appears things between the family and the couple were tense even at their last royal engagement together.
At a Commonwealth Day service at Westminster Abbey on March 9, 2020, a comment was passed by both Meghan, 43, and Harry, 40, as well as Harry's now estranged brother Prince William, 42, and his wife Princess Kate, 43. At the service, the couples greeted each other briefly before going on to watch the service. It was after these greetings that lip reader Jeremy Freeman saw some comments passed between the couples.
He told The Daily Star that Harry turned to his wife and said: "At least they acknowledged, unlike last time." He also said William whispered to his wife: "That was executed well." The couples are believed to no longer be on speaking terms with one another.
