Netflix might just be your treasure trove for the next series to devour – and if you've been aimlessly scrolling in search of that gem, look no further.

Imagine blending the '80s vibe of Stranger Things with the comedic drama of Orange Is The New Black. That's exactly what this under-the-radar series offers, reports Surrey Live.

It boasts an impressive 93 percent fresh rating on Rotten Tomatoes, and an equally commendable 86 percent audience score on Popcornmeter, not to mention a solid eight out of 10 on IMDb.

IMDb users have heaped praise upon the show, with one commenting: "For all the Gen X and Y audiences this show is a nostalgic blast from the past!" They also gushed about the elements of the show, saying, "The music is spot on, the characters engaging, the story smart and funny. Definitely another hit for Netflix. The show runners fully understand what wrestling is all about. The soap opera drama, the choreography, the archetype characters, it is all there."

Another fan expressed their love for the show: "I adored it! I watched it twice through straight away. Take every lighthearted, cult 80's film from your youth and roll them into one, then inject the diverse casting and perspectives that all of those films were sorely missing, sprinkle on some amazing 80's fashion and music, serve with some fearless subject matter (storylines covering miscarriage and abortion, misogyny, anxiety. Racism and infidelity) and you get GLOW!"

And a third gave the ultimate stamp of approval with a 10 out of 10 review, touching on the show's period authenticity: "The 1980s wasn't just neon fabrics, side ponytails, and cream colored suits with t-shirts. It was also too much moose, too much make-up, and sock-less penny loafers.

"It was ugly. Brilliantly, gloriously ugly and tacky. And that's what you see in this show.

"Superficially speaking, this series (and its characters) looks more authentically of the era than anything else I have seen portrayed on film in the last two decades [sic]."

A fourth fan chimed in: "GLOW is one of my favorite Netflix Originals. Nearly everything about this show, I love. The writing is smart, the acting is amazing, especially from Alison Brie and Marc Maron, and the story is among my favorite of any Netflix Original. Over, I love this show and wished we would've gotten that fourth and final season. Fingers crossed for a movie! [sic]."

GLOW is a dramatisation loosely based on the real-life Gorgeous Ladies of Wrestling TV show - the original wrestling series aired for four seasons in the late 1980s.

Netflix launched the documentary GLOW: The Story of the Gorgeous Ladies of Wrestling in 2012, with the factual film's success setting the stage for the drama series.

GLOW centres around struggling actress Ruth Wilder (played by Alison Brie), who, in her desperation for work, signs up for the most unconventional role of her career.

Joining a diverse group of women, she becomes a member of the TV series known as the Gorgeous Ladies of Wrestling (GLOW).

However, Ruth soon finds out that her former best friend and retired soap star Debbie Eagan (Betty Gilpin) will also be joining the cast.

The relationship between the two women becomes strained after Ruth's affair with Debbie's husband leads to the dissolution of their marriage.

GLOW delves into the emergence of the eccentric TV show, offering a glimpse behind the scenes as each cast member grapples with their individual challenges.

The Netflix drama also boasts a star-studded cast including Sydelle Noel, Britney Young, Marc Maron, Britt Baron, Kate Nash, Gayle Rankin, Kia Stevens, Jackie Tohn and Chris Lowell.

The fourth and concluding season of GLOW was in production, with one and a half episodes filmed in February 2020 before the COVID pandemic hit, prompting Netflix to cancel the series. Despite this, GLOW has remained a firm favourite among viewers on the streaming platform.
