Gavin and Stacey left fans emotional after it aired its last ever instalment and ended on Christmas 2024 after 17 years. In December, over 19 million viewers tuned in to discover whether Smithy (played by James Corden) and Nessa (Ruth Jones) would tie the knot in a triumph of a special.
The highly anticipated conclusion was a major hit, garnering the BBC’s largest Christmas Day audience in more than a decade. Although its co-creators and stars, Corden and Jones, insisted there would be no more to come from the beloved sitcom, there is an exciting project in the works. The duo revealed they are back and writing for Gavin and Stacey once more.
Following Gavin and Stacey: The Finale, the writers are set to release a new book titled When Gavin Met Stacey and Everything in Between: A Story of Love and Friendship.
The book will cover everything related to Gavin and Stacey from its beginning and conclusion.
This includes an insight into how the sitcom came about, its unprecedented nationwide success it achieved over the years and the emotional ending.
Transworld Publishers, part of Penguin Random House, previously gave fans a teaser and said the book will “recount the rejection, obstacles, and challenges [James and Ruth] faced on the way to giving birth to their beloved comedy creation”.
They added that the actors will also “explore the flourishing of their own real-life friendship,” which will inevitably provide readers with many laughs and tears.
The Former Late Late Show host Corden first worked with Welsh actress on 2001’s Teachers and Fat Friends in 2000 before they went on to create Gavin and Stacey together.
Speaking on Heart Radio last year, the actor described Ruth as someone whom he "loves more than you could ever imagine" as he reflected on what makes the show so great.
"If you like it, if it feels like it’s about love and friendship, it’s because, at the core of it, there is a loving friendship that means more to me personally than even the show does," he shared sweetly.
