Ben Morris, a travel vlogger with 866,000 subscribers on YouTube, shared a video of his visit to 'the most hated city in Europe', but said this city's "bad reputation" doesn't have anything to do with the locals or the city itself. Instead, it derives from Brits and their often unfortunate behaviour in the locale.

Benidorm  sees hundreds of thousands of Brits visit every year, and Ben, who took a trip to the Spanish city, shares in his video that although it "feels like [he is] in Spain" with the buildings and few Spanish people walking along the streets, he revealed that "for the most part, everybody here is English".

"Lots of people refer to Benidorm as mini Britain, with the British far outnumbering the locals," he adds.

Prior to Benidorm becoming a hotspot for Brits, the destination was a small fishing village home to only 3000 residents, but today, the city filled with sky-rise apartments has become a "magnet for partying and questionably anti-social behaviour."

Ben took it upon himself to find out whether the city is as bad as people make it out to be. After taking a bike ride around the city, the vlogger says: "Honestly, I was not expecting Benidorm to be this beautiful, but I also knew this place had a whole different side to it that I haven't yet explored".

The video then shows Ben, along with his friends, walking along a street lined with pubs and bars, where the group were told that nighttime is when it comes "alive".

After briefly exploring Benidorm's nightlife and being stop-searched for drugs, the following morning the group went out for breakfast and decided to ask a waiter some questions about the city's reputation. The waiter, who shared that the city is "nice for having fun", also revealed that Brits "unfortunately have a bad reputation," following Ben's question about British people in the city.

The waiter continues: "They drink a lot, they fight a lot, they do a lot of problems. There are also some good families, but I think 70% of the reputation is bad."

Ben and his crew were even recommended to leave Benidorm and visit Altea instead, just 20 minutes away from Benidorm yet offers a "completely different vibe". But when nighttime came around, they went back to explore the "chaos" in Benidorm.

"I just couldn't get over how different the energy was at nighttime, it was like feeding time at the zoo with Brits drinking and partying all down the streets," says Ben.

Issues of drug use have "skyrocketed" in Benidorm over recent years, Ben notes in the video. Yet despite police presence being everywhere, the vlogger says you still have numbers of people attempting to sell drugs to those walking or partying in the streets.

Ben who says he's never been to a play like Benidorm in his life before shared his "ultimate takeaway" from the visit. He says: "You should never truly judge somewhere solely by the narrative other people create without going and visiting first hand yourself.

"Yes, Benidorm definitely contains some aspects that would validate the so-called bad reputation which people associate with the Brits who visit here, but you could split this region in half and tell a totally different story. I experienced a beautiful side to it to which is rarely spoken of."
