Supermarket shoppers were on high alert after a new "unbelievably dangerous" prank began to trend. One UK shopper fell victim to a coy prank after buying a microwave meal, which could have had fatal consequences had it been eaten by the wrong person.

Madeline, who goes by madeleine_x00 on TikTok, revealed someone had secretly swapped the sleeve of her vegetarian meal and subbed in the meat version. She wrote: "Ok, so which t*** swapped the vegetarian lasagne label with the meat one at Tesco and ruined my tea," alongside a video of the lasagna. Even though she was "fuming", some shoppers pointed out it could have had severe consequences for anyone with severe food allergies.

Viewers took to the comment section to express their dismay, with one saying: "This is so unbelievably dangerous if someone has an allergy."

Another added it could lead to hospital: "I know a lady who is literally not able to eat meat like she would be hospitalised if she ate it. I’d be fuming."

One user suggested it had become a trend as they had "seen people filming TikToks of swapping the labels", so they always check now.

A TokToker responded that this is already happening on a more severe scale, with pranksters specifically targeting people with allergies.

They wrote it was "same in the freefrom aisles. I regularly see items dumped in there because people think it's funny to try and trick someone with an allergy or intolerance."

However, others weren't quite sympathetic and in fact threatened to do it themselves, with one saying: "Ahahhahaha, you’ve given me some serious inspiration."
